Guwahati, April 30 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday organised a regional training programme in Guwahati under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Prashikshan Maha Abhiyan, bringing together participants from all eight North-Eastern states. The event was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan, the party’s state headquarters in Assam.

Around 150 senior party workers, including karyakartas and resource persons, attended the programme. The initiative is part of a broader organisational effort aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structure and ensuring ideological alignment among its cadre.

Key Announcements / Highlights

The training session was designed as a “train-the-trainer” model, where selected participants are expected to conduct similar workshops at district and local levels. This cascading approach is intended to expand the reach of the programme across the Northeast.

Party spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi stated that the training aims to build a pool of effective communicators within the party. These individuals will play a central role in disseminating the BJP’s ideological framework and organisational practices.

Senior leaders present at the programme included National Organisational General Secretary BL Santosh, Joint Organisational General Secretary Shiv Prakash, and National General Secretary Tarun Chugh. The session was conducted under the leadership of Assam BJP State President Dilip Saikia.

Official Statement

Speaking about the initiative, BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi said the programme is focused on preparing trained speakers who can replicate similar training sessions at the district level.

He emphasised that the BJP operates on the guiding principle of “Nation First, Party Second, Self Last.” According to him, this philosophy encourages members to prioritise national interest over personal or organisational gains.

Medhi also referred to the party’s “Panch Nishtha,” or five core commitments, which form the ideological backbone of the BJP’s approach to governance and organisational functioning.

Context / Background

The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Prashikshan Maha Abhiyan is a nationwide training initiative named after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a key ideologue of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the BJP’s predecessor. The programme focuses on political education, organisational discipline, and leadership development within the party.

Training programmes like this are a regular feature of the BJP’s internal functioning. They are aimed at ensuring consistency in messaging and strengthening the party’s grassroots network.

In recent years, the Northeast has emerged as a significant region for the BJP, both politically and organisationally. The party has expanded its presence across states like Assam, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, making such regional training initiatives strategically important.

Public Impact

While the training programme is internal to the BJP, its broader impact lies in shaping the party’s outreach and governance approach. By training local leaders and speakers, the party aims to improve communication with the public and ensure that its policies and programmes are effectively conveyed at the grassroots level.

Such initiatives also contribute to leadership development within the party, potentially influencing candidate selection and governance strategies in the future.

For the public, the impact may be seen in more structured political campaigns, clearer communication of policies, and increased engagement between party representatives and local communities.

Closing Paragraph

The Guwahati training programme reflects the BJP’s continued focus on organisational consolidation in the Northeast. With participants expected to carry forward the training at district levels, the initiative is likely to play a role in shaping the party’s future activities in the region. As political competition intensifies, such structured training efforts highlight the importance of internal capacity-building in sustaining and expanding party influence.
