TVS Motor Company, a leading Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, has officially entered the adventure touring segment with the launch of its first-ever adventure bike, the Apache RTX 300. Priced starting at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the motorcycle aims to appeal to riders looking for a versatile machine suitable for daily commutes, highway cruises, and light off-road explorations. This move comes as the demand for adventure motorcycles surges in India, driven by increasing interest in long-distance touring and weekend escapades.
The Apache RTX 300 marks a significant expansion for the Apache lineup, traditionally known for sporty street bikes. Built on the new RT-XD4 platform, it combines performance with practical features, positioning TVS to capture a share of the growing entry-level adventure market. With deliveries set to begin on November 15, bookings are now open at TVS dealerships across the country.
At the heart of the Apache RTX 300 is a newly developed 299cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that produces 35.5 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 28.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring a bi-directional quickshifter and an assist-and-slipper clutch, the engine is designed for smooth power delivery and efficiency, even with ethanol-blended fuels. The setup includes dual cooling technology with water and oil jackets, ensuring consistent performance during extended rides.
The bike rides on a steel trellis frame with an aluminum diecast swingarm, offering a balance of agility and stability. Suspension duties are handled by WP components: an inverted cartridge fork at the front and a mono-tube floating piston shock at the rear, providing ample travel for handling rough terrain. Braking comes from dual disc brakes with terrain-adaptive ABS, enhancing safety across different surfaces.
Electronically, the Apache RTX 300 is well-equipped for its segment. It features four ride modes Urban, Rain, Tour, and Rally that adjust engine response, traction control, and ABS settings to suit various conditions. Other highlights include cruise control, linear traction control, a 5-inch full-color TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and call alerts, map mirroring, GoPro control, adjustable levers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. For touring convenience, it offers modular luggage mounts and a partnership with GIVI for quick-release panniers and top boxes.
Design-wise, the motorcycle adopts a rally-inspired look with a muscular fuel tank, large fenders, a transparent windscreen, beak-like front projection, split rear seat, and a dedicated luggage rack. It features eye-shaped LED headlamps with signature DRL blades and animated lighting. Available in five color options Viper Green, Metallic Blue, Pearl White, Lightning Black, and Tarn Bronze the bike emphasizes both aesthetics and functionality for long-haul comfort.
In the competitive Indian market, the Apache RTX 300 goes up against established models like the KTM 250 Adventure, Yezdi Adventure, Royal Enfield Scram 440, and Suzuki V-Strom SX. Its introductory pricing base at Rs 1.99 lakh, top variant at Rs 2.14 lakh, and built-to-order (BTO) at Rs 2.29 lakh makes it an attractive option, potentially undercutting some rivals while offering premium features typically found in higher-priced bikes.
This launch reflects TVS’s strategy to diversify its portfolio amid rising consumer interest in adventure riding, fueled by improved road infrastructure and a growing community of touring enthusiasts. As more Indians embrace motorcycles for leisure travel, bikes like the Apache RTX 300 could democratize access to capable adventure machines without breaking the bank.
