New Delhi — Union Minister Piyush Goyal said India’s higher education system must continue strengthening to help position the country as a preferred destination for global education, while addressing the Vice Chancellors’ Conclave 2026 organized by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Goyal said he was “delighted” to address the conclave, which focused on reimagining the internationalisation of higher education in line with India’s long-term development vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
During his remarks, Goyal highlighted the role of the National Education Policy 2020, stating that the policy has played a significant role in shaping the country’s education landscape.
He attributed the policy’s implementation to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it has been transformative in strengthening India’s education system.
“Highlighted how the National Education Policy 2020 under PM Narendra Modi ji’s leadership has been transformational for enhancing India’s education landscape,” Goyal wrote in the post.
The minister also emphasized the importance of expanding international collaboration and academic exchange within higher education institutions.
According to Goyal, continued improvements in India’s higher education sector could help the country attract more global students and academic partnerships.
He said that strengthening universities and academic institutions would create new opportunities for students and educational organizations around the world.
“Continued strengthening of India’s higher education system will help position the country as a preferred destination for global higher education,” Goyal wrote.
The Vice Chancellors’ Conclave organized by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade brought together academic leaders and education experts to discuss the internationalisation of India’s higher education system.
India has been expanding initiatives aimed at improving research collaboration, academic mobility, and global partnerships in the education sector as part of broader development goals linked to Viksit Bharat 2047, the government’s long-term vision for national growth.
The National Education Policy 2020 outlines reforms intended to modernize India’s education framework, including changes in curriculum design, institutional governance, and international engagement.
Goyal’s remarks come as universities and policymakers continue to explore strategies to enhance India’s position in the global education ecosystem.
No additional policy announcements were made in the social media post, which primarily summarized the minister’s address at the academic conclave.
