Lok Sabha Approves ₹2.01 Lakh Crore Supplementary Demand for Grants

The Lok Sabha has approved supplementary demands for grants amounting to ₹2.01 lakh crore, allowing the Government of India to undertake additional expenditure during the current financial year.

The approval came after discussions in the lower house of Parliament, where members debated the government’s request for additional funds required to meet spending commitments across multiple sectors.

According to officials, supplementary demands for grants are presented when the government requires additional funds beyond what was originally approved in the annual budget. Once approved by Parliament, the government is authorised to withdraw the additional amount from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet expenditure needs.

Government representatives said the funds would support various ministries, public programmes, and operational expenses that arose after the presentation of the main Union Budget. The supplementary allocation is intended to ensure that key government initiatives and administrative functions continue without disruption.

Parliamentary approval of such financial measures is part of the constitutional process that regulates government spending. The proposal was discussed and subsequently passed in the Lok Sabha following procedural debate.

The measure will now form part of the government’s authorised expenditure framework for the ongoing fiscal period.
